Communication Model example

This scene, taken from the television show The Office, is a humorous example of the communication model as shown in Chapter Four. In the scene, Pam is trying to send a message via speaking over the telephone, which would be the medium of communication. However, due to the noise coming from Michael who is standing next to her, the receiver of the message may not have been able to decode it very well. The background noise coming from Michael is very significant to the ineffectiveness of communication seen here. This is often the case when dealing with human communication in general. Usually when there is a lot of noise in a medium or channel through which communication is occurring, it becomes increasingly more difficult for the receiver to decode the sender's message. Clearly if it were not for Michael in this example, the communication over the telephone most likely would have been much more effective. Watch the scene through the link below thanks to YouTube.
