D.A.R.E

An example of civic engagement is an organization I use to participate in called "D.A.R.E." This organization professionally spreads the word about drugs to minors. When I use to participate in the organization, we would hold gatherings at a building for teenagers to come, play games, and learn about drugs. It was a great way for them to learn about drugs while having fun. Many of the teenagers' knowledge towards drugs are insufficient. A lot of teenagers are introduced to things that they have no clue what are. Knowing and teaching about what drugs are and can do to you can help them avoid situations like that. Enhancing their minds of drugs and telling them about certain peoples past experiences with drugs and what their life is like now, scares them in a good way to stay away from drugs. It helps them understand what drugs can do to your life, and help them understand that this is a serious problem with teenagers in America. Majority of people who do drugs are addicted and drugs take over their life. Preaching about these problems helps teenagers know what to do when they are influenced and offered drugs. It helps them learn how to say no and avoid peer pressure. We preach about doing the right thing and sticking up for what you believe in. So whenever a teenager is offered drugs, we highly recommend them to just say no and avoid making the wrong decisions. As many teenagers make the wrong choices in life, we influence them to change their ways and think about the decisions they make, helps them realize whats important in their life. We cant tell them how to live their life, but we can become a big influence in it.
