Slavery Still Exists

Even though we thought that slavery had been over for hundreds of years, slavery still exists today in the form of sex slaves. There are many various groups and committees that fight for the freedom for the victims in the sex trade as well as preventing the horrors from happening to other women and children. Since forced prostitution is a social problem that promotes individuals to take action and fight against it, this topic is an example of public advocacy. And the various groups that are dedicated to helping the victims of the sex trade are examples of civic engagement because these groups are trying to do what they can to help the cause. The sex trade has boomed in the past few decades making it a social issue that governments are demanding urgent policies to stop the havoc from continuing. Forced prostitution is also an example of public advocacy because this problem is all about informing the public of its horrors and finding solutions to stop the madness. Although governments are making more serious and harsh punishments for the pimps and the customers, I think that the most effective solution for any public advocacy is to spread the news about it. Get people concerned. If the public is informed of the problem and is aware of how it affects them and their community, they are more likely to take part in the civic engagement of helping the cause.
