Live United

The act of speaking out in support of or in opposition to a particular way of dealing with our communal needs and goals; this is Public Advocacy. It can be seen in any citizen willing to go the extra mile to help the community, but it takes a very dedicated group of people to live the life of a Public Advocate on a daily basis.

The United Way is a prime example of Public Advocacy being put to good use. The mission statement for this organization is as follows, from the United Way website, "United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good." Fundraising is a form of advocacy in which this group excels. The United Way is known for its fundraising for communal needs such as education, health, income, etc. The Red Cross also receives a lot of their funds through the United Way.

The United Way does a lot, not only for our local community, but for the national community. Therefore, making them a great example of Public Advocacy.
