Communication Model

For assignment two I chose a conversation from the movie Gran Torino. In the movie Thao is talking to the Italian barber. Thao is the sender at first and talks to the barber in an inconsiderate and foul way. The barber decodes the message and its multiple meanings. The barber is offended by what Thao is saying and pulls out a shotgun on him (Being the sender and giving Thao a message). Thao becomes the receiver and decodes the barbers words and actions. Thao’s vocabulary is the main destructive part that stops the conversation from being accepted and overall understood. His word choice could be caused by the age difference between the two, or by the overall disrespect that they initially have for one another. This conversation shows that certain aspects of a conversation such as vocabulary can really affect the decoding or receiving of a message. If you include the right vocabulary then the conversation will go very well, but if you include the wrong vocabulary you might end up in a situation like Thao.
