Step Brothers

There are many great examples that show the communication model in progress. One enjoyable example to young adults comes from a clip from a very funny movie Step Brothers. In this clip there are two senders, which are the brothers and they are trying to send a message in which they ask their parents if they can build bunk beds. As the parents receive the message they react with an answer and give them feedback that is a yes in a very weird tone, because they are thirty years old and they are allowed to build bunk beds if they want. As they give feedback to the boys, the reaction of the boys is based off of experience. These boys have been living under their parent’s supervision for thirty years now and all they know is that when they want to do something they must ask their parents. So when the boys give feedback to the parents they are very confused. Its like a repeating pattern through the communication model.

The most effective element in this communication situation is the decoding of the brothers. The parents are telling the brothers that they can build bunk beds but they just don’t understand what they are saying. This is very significant in human communication in general because there has been many times in my life where the receiver or the messenger might be confused or may not comprehend clearly what the sender is trying to say.
