Rhetorical Situation in the movie Miracle

The movie Miracle has many rhetorical situations along with examples of the communication process in use. I chose to use the pre-game speech (thanks to youtube) that Herb Brooks gave to his team right before they played the Soviet Union in the finals. This situation was rhetorical. The coach had an exigence to speak which was the game ahead. The Soviets were viewed as the best team in the world and the US didn't seem to have a chance. The audience was the team itself. The players could make the difference when they got out on the ice and prove that coaches words were true and that they could win. There were multiple constraints in this rhetorical situation because it was before a game. There was a contextual limit because there was only a certain amount of time before the game, and an audience constraint because the players had to truly believe that they could win even when all odds were against them. The most important factor in my opinion is the audience because the players fully understood the coaches words and they were able to take his words to heart. The audience is important in every rhetoric situation because what you are saying is received by the audience and the only way your words will be effective is if there is an audience. Through the actual olympic game results, we saw that the speech coach Brooks gave was effective and the team accomplished the unthinkable. This was one of the greatest wins in all of sports history and this speech contributed to it.
